- Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different floor types and pool conditions on growth performance and body condition in White Roman geese. Ninety-six White Roman geese ( 48 males and 48 females) were randomly divided into a factmial design of two floor types and two pool conditions at three weeks age. Each treatment was allotted 3 pens with 8 geese per pen. The floor types were mud land and plastic with full mesh floor, whereas the pool conditions were supplied water pool or not. The results showed that there were interactions between floor types and pool conditions for feather quality, scores of blister and footpad dermatitis, and cleanliness of feather and eyes (P < 0.05). Higher body weight at 12 weeks of age and body weight gain at 3 to 12 weeks of age were found on the treatment that supplied the water pool (P < 0.05). In conclusion, geese body appearance could be improved by suppling the water pool. Nevertheless, their growth performance might be decreased.
