Ebook formats are a mess - here's why.
- Authors
McIlroy, Thad
- Abstract
The author criticizes the lack of standards in publishing electronic book (e-book) formats. He notes that Amazon, considered as the largest e-book reseller, has failed to adopt either version 2.1 or version 3.0 of the existing standard called EPUB. Other factors he cites in this lack of a unified guidelines in e-book publishing are the chaos caused by the introduction of version 3.0, the use of the KF8 file format in Amazon's Kindle Fire 8 e-book reader, the complexity of the EPUB 3 standard, and the changes to this standard by oter vendors. There is also a problem with digital file conversion.
