- Title
Introduction to shelter medicine: a new way of thinking.
- Authors
Stavisky, Jenny; Dean, Rachel
- Abstract
Shelter medicine involves safeguarding the physical and psychological health, and the welfare, of populations of animals sheltered in rescue organisations. It is an increasing area of work for small animal practitioners, and requires a different skill set to dealing with privately owned individual patients. Like all aspects of practice it can be hugely challenging yet hugely rewarding. This is the first in a series of articles that will explore some of the challenges of shelter medicine in the UK.
