- Abstract
The article examines organizational change in union settings through a look at the history of labor-management partnerships. The relationship between labor and management has been characterized by conflict and mistrust stemming from the need of management to reduce costs and enhance profitability, which is often at odds with union goals to protect job security and the earnings of its members. Despite these conflicting goals, there have been many cases where unions and managers have been able to work together and reach compromises that are satisfactory to both parties.
