- Abstract
The paper proposes an analysis of the educational undertaking in higher education systems, in the context of the paradigmatic changes in the teaching process and of the occurrence of certain global issues with regard to the reduction of student population. Recent studies and official policies regarding the competences of the future professionals, the learning styles and the teaching strategies indicate the need for a change in the teaching approaches in the Romanian higher education. The academic environment allows and, at the same time, requires that the general principles of pedagogy for adults be applied: the rigorous definition of the aims and the content selection according to competences and type of education, the student's assumed responsibility, the interaction between teacher/mentor/educator and students, the effective use of cognitive and socio-emotional energy generated by the educational group, the selection of the teaching strategy in accordance with the target group and with the topics tackled, vocational counselling and professional tutoring. The new trends are being applied in more higher education systems around the world, producing substantial changes in curriculum and successfully integrating the exploratory approaches, which develop the students' thinking, the communicative, analytical, synthetical and argumentative skills, the transfer of knowledge and creativity.
