- Abstract
This paper presents the results on the synthesis of graphene oxide (GO) from graphite using the Hummers method in which the graphite surface is modificated with such strong acids as H2SO4, HNO3, KMnO4 promoted the formation of hydroxyl and epoxy groups on the main plane, as well as carbonyl and carboxyl groups at the edges. Obtained results of the synthesis of GO with the oxidation of bulk graphite with strong oxidants, then with subsequent separation into few-layer graphene sheets, contributes to the production of graphene, graphene-like materials in large quantities, with a low cost, a fairly simple synthesis method and the possibility of converting it into graphene. The elemental composition of the obtained GO were studied by the energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis and the structural characteristics were investigated by the Raman spectroscopy. The thermal stability and chemical functionalisation of GO were determined by the thermogravimetric analysis. The structural and crystal features of the obtained GO from graphite were studied using an X-ray diffractometer (XRD).
