- Abstract
The document analyzes the implications of gig work, that is, self-employment, and independent contractors--particularly those registered on digital platforms such as Uber--, for social security, fair wages, and job stability of workers. It is based on a survey conducted by The Shift Project and is contrasted with the results for workers with contracts and working relationships with traditional employers, the W-2. In the end, public policy proposals are made to improve the working conditions of gig workers.
