- Abstract
A study published in Experimental Physiology examines the potential of low voltage T-type Ca2+ channel blockade to improve the function of the vascular endothelium in aging men. The study found that endothelium-dependent dilatation significantly increased in older men following 8 weeks of efonidipine, a T-type Ca2+ channel blocker. The findings suggest that T-type Ca2+ channel blockade may have potential as a prophylactic for age-related reductions in endothelium function, even before blood pressure begins to increase. However, the study has limitations and further research is needed to fully understand the role of T-type Ca2+ channels in endothelium function.
