- Abstract
The article presents a medical case where the patient is infected with syringomyelia. Neurological examination shows weakness of muscles innervated from the L5 root, particularly on extension of the right great toe. The knee and ankle jerks are absent on the right and sluggish on the left but present on reinforcement. The right plantar response is absent but the left is extensor. There is dissociated loss of pain and temperature sensation below L2 in the right leg including the perineum and slight impairment of light touch and vibration in the right foot. She was considered to have osteomyelitis involving the right foot and was given long term penicillin with great improvement. Seamless shoes with Plastizote inners and double thickness rubber soles have also helped.
