- Abstract
Ethyl chloride freezing for local anaesthesia is widely used for many small surgical procedures in dermatology. Dozens of generalized mollusca contagiosa were removed in 66 year old lady by quick curettage, while frozen by means of ethyl chloride spray anaesthesia, 36 hours later, a severe and peculiar pattern of eczematous reactions occurred at the areas of treatment, with accentuation at the borders and where the spray has run down the flank. Frostbite, as well as allergy to the disinfectant, the topically applied antibiotics and the surgical tape were suspected.
