In the article the author discusses the issue of selection bias in assessment study of birth defects among livebirths. Topics include the study of three risk factors for birth defects including the anti-epileptic drug use, smoking, and multifetal pregnancy; and four specific birth defects such as anencephaly, spina bifida, omphalocele, and cleft palate.
