Retirement Income Replacement Ratios: An Update.
- Authors
Palmer, Bruce A.
- Abstract
This article presents the findings of the third periodic study of retirement replacement ratios conducted by researchers at the Center for Risk Management and Insurance Research, Georgia State University and the Alexander and Alexander Consulting Group. The 1993 study reveals continuing changes in the savings and expenditure patterns of the U.S. population subsamples examined in the research. These trends, together with changes in Federal Income and Social Security taxes, create important modifications in the derived income replacement ratios. In addition the present study examines the effects on income replacement ratios of newly enacted legislation that will subject up to 85 percent of Social Security retirement benefits to federal income taxation.
