- Authors
STEPHENS-ROMERO, JENNIE
- Abstract
The article discusses the U.S. Supreme Court case "California Federal Savings & Loan Association v. Guerra" in relation to the development of benefits for pregnant women in California. The author explains how the case eventually led to the strengthening of California's Pregnancy Disability Leave Law and the passage of the federal Family and Medical Leave Act, which provided for unpaid leave for both mothers and fathers. Particular focus is given to the role of women activists in promoting the Pregnancy Leave Law and combating discrimination against women in the workplace.
