Victorius' Vergil: Comments on a passage of the Alethia.
- Authors
GREEN, ROGER
- Abstract
The article presents a literary criticism of the poem "Alethia," by the poet Claudius Marius Victorius, focusing on the appearance of classical echoes, allusions or imitations in the passage on Noah from chapters 6-9 of the Biblical Book of Genesis. The context of God's punishment and coming of the deluge as expressed in Vergil's Latin phrases 'submergere ponto' and 'ponto nox incubat arta' is analyzed by comparing to other literary sources. Victorius also invoked Vergil's allegory and allusion.
