- Abstract
Most of the surgeries and ophthalmic procedures in children requiring anesthetic management are presented in healthy patients. Although only a small proportion of patients with eye diseases have associated illnesses, they must be sought intentionally because they can have significant consequences in the anesthetic management. Pre-anesthetic visit is critical to assess the individual needs of each patient and their potential impact on perioperative morbidity. It is important to know the most frequent complications in the trans and postoperative ophthalmic surgeries to implement preventive measures. In contrast to the adult, in the anesthetic management of the pediatric patient for ophthalmic surgery, general anesthesia figures prominently. While children with eye diseases are generally not candidates for the use of a single regional or sedation technique, its use in combination with general anesthesia, has shown benefits.
