EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM: "EC IN THE ER" ANALYSIS AND RECOMMENDATIONS.
- Authors
EMERSON, JOELLE
- Abstract
The article presents analysis and recommendations regarding the use of emergency contraception (EC) in the emergency room (ER). It is said that Washington D.C. fell short in its implementation of a 2009 law which requires that sexual assault victims in emergency rooms in the area be provided with information about and access to EC. It discusses the importance of EC provision to sexual assault victims and the role of EC in the ER laws in ensuring that EC is provided. It suggests complaint-based and proactive enforcement in the implementation of such laws as well as the involvement of advocates throughout the EC in the ER process.
