- Abstract
The article focuses on addressing the challenges faced by clinicians in diagnosing and treating male hypogonadism. According to doctor Frances Hayes, hypogonadism is not always age-related unless some factors are proven. It mentions the updated The Endocrine Society (TES) guidelines on androgen deficiency diagnosis, which state that the diagnosis should only be made to men with low serum testosterone levels and consistent symptoms and signs. It tells that testosterone level must be measured in the morning and in fasting state and not when a male has acute or subacute illness. It also cites MD Alvin Matsumoto's views that testosterone treatment should be given for organic causes and not for transient ones. Moreover, adverse effects of testosterone therapy are also discussed.
