"His Story Intersecting with My Own": Miscegenation as History in Natasha Trethewey's Native Guard.
- Authors
Jee Eun Kim
- Abstract
The article offers poetry criticism of the poem "Native Gurad," by Natasha Trethewey. It explores the use of literary types, themes, and the power of epistemology in the last stanza. It reflects the racial and regional identities on the anti-miscegenation law which was implemented in Mississippi as well as the Second Regiment of the Louisiana Native Guards during the history of Civil War. The author says that Trethewey shows her identity development as a biracial African-American southern poet.
