- Abstract
The article presents a study that evaluated the power of the insulin sensitivity index (ISI) combined with insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1(IGFBP-1) to identify insulin resistance (IR) early in obese children/adolescents. It presents an analysis of clinical parameters combined with laboratory tests that show an ISI value less than 4.6 as ideal for the diagnosis of early IR. When done with IGFBP-1, levels can identify those with high risk of hepatic IR while non-IR patients with lower IGFBP-1 levels are considered potentially IR.
