- Abstract
Although pulse oximetry is a standard method for monitoring the oxygen saturation of hemoglobin in operation rooms and intensive care, it still has many shottcomings. Commercial pulse oximeters compute functional oxygen saturation from relative values of ovyhemoglobin and reduced hemoglobin (MbO2, RHb). Methemoglobin (MetHb) and carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) are considered to be COHb and MetHb. This assumption is under some circumstances too dangerous and has to be eliminated. It causes the device to show false oxygenation. In this work, a photometrical non-invasive method is developed to measure the concentration of all above mentioned hemoglobin forms, the fractional oxygen saturation and pulse rate . The signal of transmitted light detected at the opposite side of irradiated probe is processed according to a modified Lambert-Beer law. We show also the first results of our work, which agrees well with those of the invasive method.
