The article offers information on the application of genome sequencing in clinical microbiology. It mentions that microbial pathogens are being characterized and their evolution is being studied by high-throughput sequencing. It further mentions that the technique bacterial genomic epidemiology is applied for the identification of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and also tracking of spread of pathogens worldwide.
