- Abstract
This article reports on two separate technology transfer initiatives launched in Brazil and India in 2009. In Brazil, the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, a vaccine producer, has entered a technology transfer deal with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). The initiative enables local researchers to produce the Synflorix pneumococcal vaccine from GSK as well as develop vaccines against dengue fever, yellow fever and malaria. In India, Merck and charity Wellcome Trust plan to invest in a not-for-profit joint venture that will develop affordable vaccines for diseases that commonly affect developing countries.
