- Abstract
The article presents a study on the use of the real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) technique in diagnosing foot and mouth disease (FMD) in the original field samples of goats in Punjab, Pakistan. The researchers collected a total of 280 samples from 30 herds of goats in 12 outbreaks suspected clinically for the food and mouth disease virus (FMDV) in 2009. They also transported all suspected samples to the National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE) in Faisalabad. They found that RT-PCR detected only 61 percent original field samples although it remained more successful in diagnosing the 12 outbreaks.
