- Abstract
The article presents a study on the population trend of Fulica atra or the Black Coot in the province of Punjab in Pakistan from 1989 to 2008. The researchers estimated close to 853,000 Black Coot at several study sites during the period, the mean value of which is 42,638 birds every year. They found that the declining population in the study areas can be attributed to various threats including the land leased by the Punjab Irrigation and Power Development to the farmers for crop cultivation, the large scale netting practiced by fishermen and illegal hunting.
