- Title
Tussen Scylla en Charybdis. Een etnohistorie van Texels visservolk (1813-1932).
- Authors
Vestergaard, Elisabeth
- Abstract
The article presents the author's perspectives on the study made by maritime anthropologist Rob van Ginkel regarding the alterations in two fishing communities in Texel, Netherlands. The author states that van Ginkel concentrates on the oyster fisheries that offered the primary source of income for island fishermen in 1830s and 1840s. The author says that in several ways, van Ginkel tries to outline the economic background against which the Texel industry has to be seen. The author claims that the approach of van Ginkel is general, concentrating on patterns instead of isolated facts.
