- Abstract
The article discusses a study which examined the existing child-rearing attitudes in foster home mothers in Los Angeles County, California by comparing their attitudes with the biological mothers in the Well-Baby Clinic. The Parent Attitude Research Instrument was used for assessing such attitudes. There were 233 foster home mothers and 70 clinic mothers being examined. Results revealed that foster mothers have a greater trend to dependency formation, conformity in parenting and in dedication to the maternal rewards of the mothering role. They also expressed a stronger emphasis on infant development which can contribute to the inhibited pattern of personality development.
