The article presents an iconographic and stylistic analysis of the pensive bodhisattva images in Hebei and Shandong in China, and the Korean peninsula from the 6th to the early 7th century. Topics discussed include sources of the iconography, exemplars that provided artistic inspiration, and the religious meanings of the extant works.
