- Abstract
Lili Körber is an Austrian author who had to leave her first country, Russia, during the World War I, and the second country, Austria, in 1938, after Austria was annexed by Nazi Germany. In 1939, Lili Körber first fled to France (Paris), and in 1941 she emigrated to America, where she stayed for the rest of her life. In the post-war period this author was almost forgotten, even though her novel Eine Jüdin erlebt das neue Deutschland, published in 1934 in Vienna, was a bestseller and sold out quickly. Immediately after its first publication, it was banned. The novel is one of the first anti-fascist novels in Austria. It reflects the time period with elements of documentary literature and was reissued as Die Ehe der Ruth Gompertz in 1984 in Germany.
