- Abstract
Employment-oriented training is a Co-Operative Education program aimed at qualifying students who have significant learning difficulties in secondary school. The objective of this training is to help them develop employability skills so they can enter the labour market and remain there (MELS, 2008a). Because of its target clientele, this program requires the specific involvement of key stakeholders in schools and businesses, including reception, supervision, training and evaluation. Although Co- Operative Education programs at the secondary level seem to be a possible solution for these young people (Landry et Mazalon, 2002; Langlois, 2003; Gagnon, 2007), there are few studies on the practices of internship supervisors in the school setting (teachers) and corporate trainers in the Co-Operative Education context (Gagnon, 2007). The purpose of this article is to describe and analyze the roles perceived by the internship supervisors in the school setting and corporate trainers in the employment- training setting. Our results tend to show that corporate trainers and school internship supervisors play an important communication role among themselves and with the students. In some cases, it seems that student supervision is not taken into much consideration by either party, which influences the average behavioural objective results that are being worked on with the students. Little time is spent on student behaviours and attitudes in terms of the objectives the educators are working with, and yet these aspects are important indicators of employability (Joyal and Samson, 2009), which is one of the aims of these programs.
