- Abstract
The article examines the ceramic sculptures of Viennese ceramicist Vally Wieselthier and focuses on the ways these pieces depict femininity. Topics discussed include an interpretation of the works as examples of parodies of feminine beauty and decoration, Wieseltheir's decision to leave the Wiener Werkstätte, or Vienna Workshops, to continue her career in New York City, and historic debates about expressionist ceramics within applied, or decorative, arts. Her move to the creation of monumental figures is also examined.
