- Abstract
The article examines the symbiotic relationship of voice and vision in the Greek text of Philostratus the Elder's book, "Imagines." It notes that "Imagines" was written in the third century of the Common Era (CE) and uses exegesis to describe paintings. It analyzes the text in the context of theories of vision which includes the Greek phenomenon of ekphrasis, and the use of Philostratus's seeing and hearing games in Greek rhetorical theory.
