- Abstract
Objective: To observe the clinical effects of five-line acupuncture in the treatment of depression. Method: 100 cases of outpatient depression patients were randomly divided into either the acupuncture group or the medication group; 50 patients in each group. The acupuncture group was treated with five-line acupuncture and the medication group was prescribed St. John's grass extract tablet (lkoptimal Thai) or Venlafaxine Hydrochloride Zyban (Po LeXin). Hamilton Depression scores, before and after treatment, were compared to evaluate the therapeutic effects. Results: after two treatment courses, both the comparisons of HAMD score and the clinical effect between the two groups showed a significant difference (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The curative effect of five-line acupuncture in the treatment of depression was found to be superior to standard treatment with western medicine; and was validated as an effective treatment for depression.
