- Title
Chapter 7: Are the National Standards Achievable?--Conclusions and Recommendations.
- Authors
Graber, Kim C.; Locke, Lawrence F.
- Abstract
The article explains the U.S. national physical education standards, which describe what students should know and be able to accomplish as a result of quality physical education, and examine research into whether U.S. schoolchildren are making progress toward attainment of these standards. The authors explain that the focus of the research discussed was on three standards, progress toward motor competence, participation in physical activity, and a health-enhancing level of physical fitness, and included consideration of certain factors related to study participants, such as experience, perception, and motivation. They explain their conclusions and the implications of the research results on physical education teaching in U.S. schools.
