- Abstract
The article discusses the importance of social trust towards democracy. Nations with trusting people are more inclined to having better working democratic institutions in order to have more open economics, greater economic growth and less crime and corruption. Social trust is caused by two different but interrelated types of equality, that of economic equality and equality of opportunity. It is learned that inequality may be reduced through universalistic social policies.
