- Authors
Wilcken, Lois E.
- Abstract
The article offers information on the dance performances presented at the Pat Hall Dance and Movement Class which was held at the Mark Morris Dance Center located in Brooklyn, New York City. Dance instructor Pat Hall considers her class as an environment and a dance community that regenerates ad restores the body and the spirit through dancing. It states that the kase is an activity in the class wherein the dance was patterned by a drum related with spirit possession. It mentions that the Vodou Kase is a sacred practice of dancing in Haiti which began after the country had declared its independence in 1804. Moreover, it adds that the Vodou music is performed by using three full-sized drums, one frame drum, and one bell or gong.
