- Authors
KHAN, M. A. MUQTEDAR
- Abstract
This article discusses the implications of Muslim integration within European communities as it relates to the European identity. Issues relating to the toleration of Muslims alongside other religious minorities in Europe are considered. The statistical position of Islam in Europe is considered and the lack of relationship between the size of the Muslim population and the response to their presence in European countries is considered. Issues relating to Islamophobia and the public response to anti-Muslim rhetoric, such as cartoons printed in the Danish newspaper "Jyllands-Posten" in 2005 are considered. The reform of immigration laws in the Netherlands to test for intolerance among Muslims is also considered as a controversial aspect of Muslim-European relations.
