The article focuses on the formation of a national dance company for Nigeria, which has not yet been attained despite the existence of dance groups every State Art Council in the country. It gives an account of the Nigerian dance origin as well as its central characteristics, and discusses that the lack of personnel trained in dance and choreography and the belief in the concept of a correct form of dancing hampers the creation of a national dance company in the country.
