- Title
Saurer: investments in nonwovens machinery.
- Abstract
This article reports that the persistent weakness in the global textile business, apparent since mid-year 2004, showed its effects variously across many business areas of the nonwoven machinery producer Saurer Group, based in Switzerland. Over the textile sector as a whole, order intake was down 22 percent and sales 5 percent compared with the first half of 2004, or 8 percent and 10 percent, compared with the second half of 2004. In particular, Chinese demand for new fiber and textile capacity weakened in almost all business areas, while other Asian markets are increasing their investment, striving now to keep pace with China in technology and quality.
