- Abstract
The article features a study of the side effects of the synthetic prostaglandin misoprostol on pregnancy. According to a recent study, vaginal administration of the synthetic prostaglandin misoprostol is an effective means of terminating a second-trimester pregnancy. Fifty-five pregnant women between 12-22 weeks of gestation participated in a prospective, randomized trial to compare the efficacy and safety of misoprostol and prostaglandin E2. The women, who ranged in age from 16 to 41 years, were terminating their pregnancy either because of intrauterine fetal death or for medical or genetic reasons.
