- Title
Types to the rescue as technology taxes taxonomists, or The New Disappearance.

- Abstract
We argue that type specimens, and the designation of type specimens, for the names of algae, fungi and plants (and other organisms for that matter) remain critically important as technological advances approach the point where taxonomy, and by implication taxonomists, may become redundant. Types must serve as the link between the enormous amount of information accumulated on these organisms and the organisms' correct names. Types best accomplish this when the information for an organism can be applied to the type itself. To this end, we propose the establishment of an official database of types and typifications and we suggest that researchers refrain from drawing conclusions about taxa for which the types were not considered. Additional recommendations regarding the integration of types into taxonomic research are also made.
