- Abstract
The article reports on Robert Edwards' in vitro fertilization (IVF) that has won him the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. It notes that Edward overcame a series of obstacles to make in vitro fertilization a reality including the bitter opposition from churches, politicians, and several of his eminent colleagues at the University of Cambridge in England. It claims that the technique has benefited infertile couples and enabled the field of human embryonic stem-cell research.
