IPCC flooded by criticism.
- Authors
Schiermeier, Quirin
- Abstract
The article reports on the criticisms received by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) over its competency in fulfilling its tasks. It notes the feedbacks against the agency which were generated by their erroneous report on the Himalayan glaciers, and on the increase of economic loss due to extreme weather. It features the statements by IPCC assessment report co-chair Thomas Stocker and overall chairman Rajendra Pachauri on defense of the panel. It also cites the constructive criticism offered by National Center for Atmospheric Research's Kevin Trenberth on how IPCC can improve its competency through coordination. Moreover, it presents the insights by oceanographer Jürgen Willebrand and climate scientist Andrew Weaver on how IPCC can recover from their blunders.
