Biology: Mile-high strategies.
Abstract
The article reports that a sparrow discovered in the northern reaches of the Rocky Mountains of North America displays a tradeoff between lifespan and reproductive period based upon how high up it lives. Populations of dark-eyed juncos (Junco hyemalis) have been found as high as 2,000 metres above sea level in Canada's Jasper National Park. Research on the birds was conducted by Heather Bears and colleagues of the University of British Columbia.
