- Abstract
During the winter of 2021/2022, 19 researchers examined 30 potential bat hibernacula in Bosnia and Herzegovina (26 caves and pits, two abandoned railway tunnels, one underground quarry and one ruined building) by visual observation, occasional detailed examination of individual animals and determination of bone remains. A total of 10 bat species were found: Rhinolophus hipposideros, R. ferrumequinum, R. euryale, Myotis myotis, M. blythii, M. emarginatus, M. capaccinii, Nyctalus noctula, Barbastella barbastellus and Miniopterus schreibersii. By recording echolocation signals at four locations, N. noctula and the phonic group of P. kuhlii/nathusii were detected. The most frequently found species was R. hipposideros (80% of sites), followed by R. ferrumequinum (47% of sites). Mi. schreibersii was detected in the highest number, almost all of them at five surveyed locations.
