- Abstract
An optical spectroscopic method for analyzing the quality of the solvent used for gel-spinning of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene was proposed using Vaseline oil (VO) as an example. The method was based an analysis of elastically scattered light from contaminant particles in the VO. This method could be used to determine the average size and size distribution of the scattering particles. Dynamic light scattering and optical microscopy confirmed the data for the average particle sizes and the size distributions of the contaminants in the VO that were obtained using optical spectroscopy.
