- Abstract
Traumatic injuries can be caused by various factors like sports, violence, accidents etc. Dento-alveolar injuries involve the teeth, alveolar portion of maxilla and mandible and the nearby soft tissues. They include avulsions, lacerations, fractures etc. Fractures are the most common dento-alveolar injuries associated with accidents and violence. Simple fractures include a crown fracture while complex ones involve the whole maxilla, mandible or the zygomatic bone. Causes of these injuries can be classified into: Injuries at home, on the streets, work / school, sports activities and violence. The aim of this study is to identify and evaluate the incidence of dento-alveolar fractures among trauma patients in Saveetha Dental College. It is a hospital based retrospective study taking all clinical samples with dento-alveolar fractures from June 2019 to March 2020 from the DIAS. The data collected was tabulated with the parameters: Age, Gender and Site of Fracture. The results were then analyzed using the software SPSS and Chi square test. Analyzed data is represented as graphs. Incidence of fractures in 10-20 years was (21.4%) and similarly in 30-40 years also incidence was (21.4%). Males (85.7%) were more prone to fractures than Females (14.3%). Most common site of fracture was the mandibular arch (51%). We can conclude that dento alveolar fractures more commonly occur between ages 10-20 and 30-40 years. It was more prone to occur in men. Most common site of fracture was the lower arch.
