Secondary Physical Education Teachers who Teach Elementary Physical Education.
- Authors
Randall, Lynn
- Abstract
The article discusses various challenges faced by secondary physical education teachers who teach elementary physical education in New Brunswick. The increasing number of students triggers the Minister of Education to deploy secondary teachers to teach elementary students to ensure all school children in the province receive the physical education outlined in the provincial curriculum. However, these teachers admit that they experience difficulties in doing their duty because of the lack of training, lack of in-services and no access to expertise in elementary physical education. It is proven that these barriers hinder an effective delivery of teaching unlike specialist teachers who can provide more regular classes, more cues and prompts to assist student learning.
