- Title
"The Beginning Is the Most Important Part of the Work": Discovering Professional Identity and Purpose at the 2012 RBMS Preconference.
- Authors
Newboles, Kori B.
- Abstract
The author reflects on her experience at the 2012 Preconference of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section ( RBMS) of the American Libraries Association (ALA). She says the benefits of attending the event include meeting fellow members and gaining understanding of the shared mission in special collections. She says the talks helped her think about potential futures for representational practices in special collections. She also finds the linked open data plenary inspiring, with speakers Jon Voss and Michael Panzer stressing the power of combinatory principles of description and representation. She also discusses the value of preconference for professional development.
