- Abstract
A literary criticism of the novel "Secret History; or, The Horrors of St. Domingo," by Leonora Sansay, is presented. Topics include the relation between gothic horror and reproduction in the novel, the portrayals of the islands Saint Domingue and Cuba in the novel, and the narration of the book by the characters Mary and Clara. Also addressed are the depiction of Creoles, the representation of land crabs, and the relation of the novel to revolution in Saint Domingue.
