- Abstract
The cost of housing for students in Germany is higher than the Bafög housing allowance, according to a study by the Moses Mendelssohn Institute. The German National Association for Student Affairs reports that the current Bafög housing allowance is 360 euros, while a shared apartment (WG-Zimmer) costs an average of 479 euros. This leads to the situation where the possibility of studying at a university increasingly depends on the financial capacity in the respective city. The German National Association for Student Affairs describes this as "a new form of social selection".
